Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Humility Of Jesus
Call To Worship
Praise to him who comes in the name of the Lord. Shout with joy, for your King is coming! He proclaims peace to the nations and healing to the end of the earth. Hosanna in the highest. Honor and praise to Christ our King!
Invocation
Almighty God, today when we remember the day on which Jesus rode in triumph into the city of Jerusalem, we pray that now and always he may triumph in our hearts. We praise you that he came into the world not as a conquering ruler, but as the Messiah to save us from our sins and reveal to us the God of the universe as the God of love. Help us to do our part that the day will come when every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.
Confession
We confess, Lord, that our worship often lacks the enthusiasm of the early followers who shouted "Hosanna" in the streets of Jerusalem. So often we worship out of a sense of obligation rather than of enthusiastic desire. The smile is not on our faces, and the spring is not in our steps. Fill us, Lord, with a sense of awe and wonderment in your presence, and help us to celebrate with joy your mighty acts among us. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
As we give, we remember Jesus Christ our King. We remember that he devoted his life to doing good. We remember that he designated his death as a sacrifice. We remember that he appointed us to carry on his work. As we give, we remember Jesus Christ. Amen.
Hymns
"All Praise To Thee, For Thou, O King Divine"
"Take Up Thy Cross"
"At The Name Of Jesus"
