Series VI, Cycle B
Call To Worship
Leader: The law of the Lord is perfect; it gives new strength.
People: The commands of the Lord are trustworthy, giving wisdom to those who lack it.
Leader: The laws of the Lord are right, and those who obey them are happy.
People: The commands of the Lord are just, and give understanding to the mind.
All: May my words and my thoughts be acceptable to you, O Lord, my refuge and my redeemer!
Collect
Lord, once again we have come together to acknowledge you as our Heavenly Father, and to seek your blessing and guidance. Give us a new understanding of your commandments that we may walk as children of the Light, and be instrumental in bringing that Light to a dark world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we like to think that we live upright lives, and that your commandments guide all our decisions. The truth is, however, that we fall short and constantly make excuses for ourselves. Forgive us, Lord, and strengthen our resolve to live according to your will. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"God The Omnipotent"*
"Lead On, O King Eternal"
Third Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25
Theme: Christ The Power And Wisdom Of God
Call To Worship
Come let us worship together, for here we proclaim Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
Collect
Almighty and Everlasting God, often we have looked for miracles to show us your power, and we have turned to those the world calls wise to discover your wisdom. This morning we gather to worship you through Jesus Christ our Lord who has shown us your true power and wisdom. Praise be to you, O God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We know, Lord, that you accept us as we are despite our foolish ways. We know, too, that we more readily follow the ways of the world than we follow your ways. Forgive our shortcomings, Lord, and help us so that we may learn to value your wisdom over the wisdom of the world. Amen.
Hymns
"The Old Rugged Cross"
"Lift High The Cross"
Third Sunday In Lent
Gospel Lesson: John 2:13-22
Theme: Let Your Devotion To God Burn In Your Life Like A Fire
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us worship the Christ.
People: With his coming we are healed. Through him we are one in the Spirit.
Leader: Come, let us worship, offering him voices and lives in harmony with his will.
People: We will give of ourselves in service to God and to his people. Amen.
Collect
We are thankful, Lord, that you are present with us. When we are weary you strengthen us. When we are upset you bring calm to our troubled souls; our fears subside, and our hearts are filled with peace. Give us courage, Lord, that when we confront evil we may resist it, counting not the cost of our decision, but only the inward joy that awaits those who choose to follow you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Christ of the cross, we bow in contrition before you confessing our failures. We have commercialized your church and compromised our faith. We have concentrated on budgets and fund-raising, rather than serving you by ministering to the needs of your children. Forgive our self-righteousness that ignores the need for sacrifice and servanthood, and cleanse us by the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
Hymns
"Grace Greater Than Our Sin"
"There's Within My Heart A Melody"
