Ten Words
Worship
LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship (Psalm 19:7-10)
One: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple;
All: the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes;
One: the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
All: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.
Collect (based on Psalm 19:14)
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of Mount Sinai, we do not come to venerate stone monuments with your words graven on them. Those serve only as reminders. We pray instead that you will engrave your ten words onto our hearts so we might become living monuments through the power of your Holy Spirit. Let your word, which is sweeter than honey, more to be desired than gold, shine through our lives, revealing through our brokenness your perfect love for all people. Amen.
Hymns
"How Firm A Foundation"
"Wonderful Words Of Life"
"Sanctuary"
Proper 22/Ordinary Time 27

Second Lesson: Philippians 3:4b-14
Theme: Rubbish Or Worse
Call To Worship (Psalm 19:1-6)
One: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Two: Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.
Three: There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard;
One: yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,
Two: which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy, and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
Three: Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them; and nothing is hid from its heat.
Collect
Earth and sky, sun and sea, all the world praises you in fulfilling the course you have set. We join that chorus of praise as your faithful people, grateful for the course you set for us as well. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Thank you Lord for your perfect sacrifice. Thank you for this opportunity to gain through loss. It is marvelous beyond our comprehension. When we add up all we have achieved in the eyes of the world it comes to nothing. When we measure the cost of our salvation which you freely give to us, it is beyond price. In wonder and awe we praise your name. Amen.
Hymns
"When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"
"Awake, My Soul"
"Thine Is The Glory"
Proper 22/Ordinary Time 27
Sunday between October 2 and October 8 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 21:33-46
Theme: Just Whose Farm Is It?
Call To Worship (Matthew 21:42)
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes.
Collect
Gather together all nations. We will praise God for the strong medicine of his Word which strikes home and heals. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
How we delight in your Word when we believe it convicts others. Dare we allow your Word to afflict us when we have grown too comfortable with the world? Let your gospel strike us in the heart so we may repent and be healed of the infirmity we may not admit. Even so, come Lord Jesus, soon. Amen.
Hymns
"Here In This Place"
"We Would Extol Thee"
"The Work is Thine, O Christ"
