Series VII, Cycle B
Object:
Call To Worship (Psalm 118:19-20)
One:
Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.
All:
This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.
Collect
Lord, you knew. If you knew, how could you do? Yet you did. The disciples hid. Hear our prayer. Had we been there, what would we have done? Our prayer as one, that we should bide, stay at your side, from the waving of the palms, past our fears and our qualms, to the nailing of your palms. Save us, Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God who sustains us, we reflect upon the words of your prophet and pray for your vindication. When the storms of life surround us, when for your name we endure ridicule and experience anguish and despair, direct our hearts again toward the cross. Open the gates of righteousness to us. We want to follow Jesus. Amen.
Hymns
Cross of Jesus, Cross Of Sorrow
Lift Up Your Heads
So Lowly Doth The Savior Ride
Sunday Of The Passion
Palm Sunday
Second Lesson: Philippians 2:5-11
Theme: Drained To The Dregs
Call To Worship
At the name of Jesus, let every knee bow. Come, God's people, glorify God!
Collect
Look at this cup, drained on the altar, a perfect sacrifice. Now the cup is empty. How shall we fill it? Our Lord will fill it, and invites us to drain it again, this time filled with the fruit of the vine. Come, God's people. Let us share this walk together. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
This week, Lord, we are tempted to become spectators, to cheer for Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, to listen with wonder to his words, to greedily watch as the bread and cup are offered that we might take our share in his last supper, nod sleepily with the apostles in the garden, to stand stunned as he is arrested, look on with horror as he is crucified, and wait, wait, wait with the women at the tomb, wondering what we will do about that large, large stone. But this is no spectator sport. This is our life, our hope, our salvation. Lord, we are sinners, and in your shadow we mean to pick up our cross, with your help, and follow. Poke us, prod us, push us, that we might fulfill our best desires for ourselves, setting aside the false gods of materialism, consumerism, and nationalism, proclaiming nothing but your cross. Amen.
Hymns
Man Of Sorrows
Lord, I Want To Be A Christian
Jesus, Keep Me Near The Cross
Sunday Of The Passion

Call To Worship (Psalm 118:24-26)
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Save us, we beseech you, O Lord! O Lord, we beseech you, give us success! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. Amen.
Collect (Mark 11:9-10)
Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Our praise is not in words only, Lord, but in actions as well, that reflect our faith in your steadfast love. Today we offer not only our palms, but our alms. Bless us in our giving, and challenge us in our daily living. Accept our gifts this day. Amen.
Hymns
All Glory, Laud, And Honor
Hosanna, Loud Hosanna
He Is King Of Kings
