Call To Worship (Psalm 22:23-24)
One:
You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him; stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
All:
For he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted; he did not hide his face from me, but heard me when I cried to him.
Collect
A bulb was planted before the cold of winter. It has been sheltered and nurtured beneath fallen leaves and snow banks. The Son is among us, warming our hearts. Promises were given. Now it bursts into flower. Truth reigns. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of Sarai, God of Sarah, nothing much changes when we trust in you. Everything changes when we trust in you. We claim the name you have chosen for us, and believe long delayed promises will yet be fulfilled among your people. Claim us, Lord. Name us, Lord. Amen.
Hymns
In The Bulb There Is A Flower
Trust And Obey
Now The Green Blade Rises
Second Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: Romans 4:13-25
Theme: Hoping Against Hope
Call To Worship
Come children of Abraham, adopted by God. Now is the time for worship. Now is the time for hope to be fulfilled.
Collect
Faith is our standard, God, faith revealed in your people, from Abraham and Sarah through those who share with us this hour. Great things have been done in your name. Greater things are still to be accomplished, so that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We believe in God, a God who is active. We believe in God's people, for God sustains us. We believe beyond hope, because the first fruits of our resurrection have already been harvested. We believe. Amen.
Hymns
Come! Now Is The Time To Worship!
The God Of Abraham Praise
Sweet Are The Promises
Second Sunday In Lent
Gospel Lesson: Mark 8:31-38
Theme: I Know! I Know!
Call To Worship (based on Psalm 22:28-29)
Dominion belongs to the Lord. He rules over the nations. Let all who sleep, lulled by the world's temptations, bow down. Let all bow down who realize we shall go down to the dust. Turn away from darkness. Live for Jesus.
Collect
Christ Jesus, you are Lord. The world is difficult to understand, the answers seem uncertain, so we cling to our confession of faith -- You have died, you have risen, you will come again. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
I know you are the Christ, the Messiah. I know you are the Son of God. I know you took up your cross for me. I know I must take up my cross and follow you. I believe. Help my unbelief, Lord Jesus, Christ, Messiah, Savior, King. Amen.
Hymns
Ask Me What Great Thing I Know
I Know That My Redeemer Lives
I Know Not Why God's Wondrous Grace
