Call To Worship (Psalm 98:1)
O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things.
Collect
What marvelous things have been done, whether we know it or not. One family, one God, one people, one Lord. With songs of grateful praise we thank you for this bounty! Who'd have guessed? Who would have dared guess that our Lord is so merciful he will touch all lives! Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Thanks a lot, Lord God Almighty. Sending your Spirit where you want, among the Gentiles, and raising up all sorts of problems. This was a fine church when you limited it to just your people, by which we mean, just us. Our close circle. Not the others who are just a bother. There's no telling what they will do. Just you and me, Lord, just you and me. But you have this odd idea that all nations are part of your family, all people, all families are your family. You seem to understand all languages. Everyone who calls on your name is saved. So tear down the walls I have created from my prejudices while I'm still letting you. Let your people in! Let my people in. Amen.
Hymns
Lift Every Voice And Sing
What Wondrous Love Is This?
Crown Him With Many Crowns
Sixth Sunday Of Easter
Second Lesson: 1 John 5:1-6
Theme: The Real Commandment
Call To Worship (Psalm 119:105 KJV)
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Collect
We love you, God, in spirit and truth. Your love lights our way. When we love one another we fulfill your commandment of peace. Let it be so. Amen. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God. We believe that we are saved through his sacrifice of love. We believe that his commandments are easy and the burden is light. We love you, Heavenly Father. We love you Son of God. We love you Holy Spirit. Amen.
Hymns
Come, Now Is The Time To Worship
Thy Word
Marvelous Grace
Sixth Sunday Of Easter
Gospel Lesson: John 15:9-17
Theme: Joy, Not Happiness
Call To Worship (Psalm 98:4-9)
One:
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
All:
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.
One:
With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the king, the Lord.
All:
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it.
One:
Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy
All:
at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.
Collect
Love incarnate, let our joy be completed, let your love be mirrored in our love for each other and our love for you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord we come before you, some with no love in our hearts, some with false love, misdirected love, restrictive love, no love at all. Would that we knew the things that make for perfect love. Let our love be made manifest in action, in laying down our lives for others, here and around the world, rather than in empty words and phrases. This is the day that you have made. We will rejoice and love your world, your people, and you. Amen.
Hymns
What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Love Lifted Me
My Jesus, I Love Thee
