Call To Worship (based on Psalm 148:11-13)
Older:
Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth!
Younger:
Young men and women alike, old and young together!
All:
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his glory is above earth and heaven.
Collect
Lord, once again we have seen your salvation, celebrating the birth of the child despite all the distractions of the world. Joy has come again into the world. We will not keep silent, we will not rest, until your salvation, like a burning torch, is seen by all and received by all. Bless us in our worship today as we dedicate ourselves once more to the work of your kingdom. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God, you granted unto us the privilege of naming all creatures upon the earth. Now as your confessing people we claim the name you have given unto us. We will not rest until all may be claimed by that most holy name. Amen.
Hymns
Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming
There's A Song In The Air
I Shall Not Be Moved
First Sunday After Christmas
Second Lesson: Galatians 4:4-7
Theme: An Unexpected Bequest
Call To Worship (Isaiah 61:11)
For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.
Collect
God of gifts, we thank you for your Spirit who dwells in our midst. May we follow your example of giving richly, as we offer today a measure of our time, our talents, our prayers, our energy, our wealth, and our poverty. Bless us as your family this day. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, we are your children, yet we rarely claim it, instead acting as if we were children of the world. We are the heirs yet we squander our inheritance as if it belonged to another. Let your light shine well the world over, and over our worldly cares as well. Let what has been fulfilled in history cause us to be filled with love for each other and your eternal destiny for our lives also. Patient God, these things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
Hymns

First Sunday After Christmas
Gospel Lesson: Luke 2:22-40
Theme: Wheel Of Fortune
Call To Worship (Luke 2:34-35)
This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed -- and a sword will pierce your own soul too.
Collect
We have seen your salvation! We rest for this hour secure in the fulfillment of your promise, long ago in your temple, and even today in our hearts. Calm us, cleanse us, then send us forth in the power of your light, that all nations might be drawn to you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, how we resent the rising and falling in our lives, asking, "Why me?" instead of "Why not me?" In our long waiting we are reminded that as faithful servants we stand secure in the knowledge of your word and its fulfillment in our lives. Fill us with your peace. Amen.
