Series VII, Cycle B
Call To Worship (based on Acts 4:7 and 12)
One:
By what power and what name do we gather today?
All:
We gather through the power and the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other name in heaven by which we may be saved.
Collect
Lord of life, we celebrate today those who gave us life. We express our gratitude to you as creator and to those you chose to mother us, who through their words and their actions taught us more than words can say. We recognize not only those who physically gave birth, but those spiritually gave birth to Christian disciples. We pray as well that you will dwell in our midst and guide those who are now engaged in this vital task of giving life and nurturing lives. Bless us as we seek to mirror your perfect loves in our imperfect lives. These things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of history, we know that to reject the world is to be rejected by the world. But that which the world rejects becomes the cornerstone of your kingdom. Break us, shape us, mold us to your purpose and will, use us in the building of your church. Amen.
Hymns
Morning Has Broken
Mothering God, You Gave Me Birth
Savior Like A Shepherd Lead Us

Second Lesson: 1 John 3:16-24
Theme: Truth And Action
Call To Worship (Acts 4:11-12)
One:
This Jesus is "the stone that was rejected by you, the builders; it has become the cornerstone."
Two:
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.
Collect
Lord, Lord, we say, Lord, Lord, with our eyes to the heavens, but you are not to be found in the skies, Heavenly Father, but in the unloved, the suffering, the marginalized, the oppressed, the forgotten. We turn our eyes away from the skies and toward our sisters and brothers and find you. As your Son washed the feet of your disciples so we seek to serve your children in every circumstance, no matter what the world might think. Lord, Lord, now we see you. Lord, Lord, now we serve you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (1 John 3:23-24)
One:
And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
All:
All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. Amen.

Theme: To Be Known
Call To Worship (Psalm 23 KJV)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Collect
Lord, do you know us? Lord, do you recognize us? We are here, and we now know you -- Savior, King, Shepherd, Lover, Brother, Friend, Son of God, Messiah, Prince of Peace, Ancient of Days. And more. Lord, do you know us? Lord, do you recognize us? We are here. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
The shepherd calls. The shepherd loves us, and calls us to safety, to shelter, to cool and clear waters, to a table running over, to a place of goodness and mercy. Call us again, Shepherd King. This time we will answer. This time we will follow. Call us in mercy and love, Shepherd King. Amen.
