A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Advent Wreath
We bring our fears into your revealing light.
We light this candle to acknowledge your nearness.
In the confusion of a constantly changing world may this light guide our way into your restorative presence.
Unison Call To Worship (Psalm 126)
When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."
The LORD has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.
Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the watercourses in the Negeb.
May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy.
Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.
Unison Invocation
God of Glory, we come rejoicing, carrying our sheaves. We rejoice because you have found us, in the midst of all the distractions and headaches of the season. We confess to you this morning our earnest desire to be your people. Send your spirit in our midst, so that we might "day by day see thee more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow thee more nearly, day by day." Amen. (from "Day By Day" by St. Richard of Chichester)
Morning Prayer (based on Isaiah 61)
The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon us, because the LORD has anointed us; he has sent us to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn -- to give them a garland instead of ashes. We will greatly rejoice in the LORD, we shall exult in our God. For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. Amen.
Children's Benediction
God has covered you with a robe of righteousness!
