Third Sunday In Advent
For Isaiah 12:2-6
(Distribute this sheet to the readers.)
Date:
Reader A:
Reader B:
Introit
(As the introit is being sung, Readers A and B come forward and stand by the Advent wreath until the music is finished.)
Litany
Reader A:
Please turn to the Advent litany in your bulletins.
(Pause as they do so.)
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Scripture
Reader B:
Listen to the words of Isaiah as he proclaims the joy of his salvation:
Reader A:
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
In that day you will say:
"Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted.
Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.
Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you."
Lighting Of The First, Second, And Third Advent Candles
Reader B:
On this third Sunday in Advent, along with the candles of hope and peace, we light the candle of joy. The ultimate joy is in the coming of the Lord and the establishing of God's kingdom.
(While Reader B is reading, Reader A uses the small candle at the back of the wreath to take the light from the altar candle and transfer it to the front candle, side purple candle, and the pink candle. Extinguish the small candle and return it to the back of the wreath.)
Prayer
Reader B:
Let us pray:
Almighty God, sometimes it is difficult to find joy in this world of ours. Help us to find our joy in you for your salvation calls us to rejoice in all situations. Amen.
Introit
(As the introit is being sung again, the readers may be seated.)
