A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Call To Worship (based on Psalm 65)
One: Praise is due to you, O God.
All: By awesome deeds you answer us with deliverance, O God of our salvation; you are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas.
Men: By your strength you established the mountains; you are girded with might.
Women: You silence the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples.
Right: Those who live at earth's farthest bounds are awed by your signs; you make the gateways of the morning and the evening shout for joy.
Left: You visit the earth and water it, you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide the people with grain, for so you have prepared it.
Front: You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth.
Back: You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with richness.
One: The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy,
All: the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.
Unison Prayer
God of time, the time is so urgent. You offer us joy, and we accept instead what the world has to offer. You offer us the peace that passes understanding, and we settle on the distractions of materialism. Today we have the chance to step beyond worship into discipleship. We know our history, how you have stuck by your people through thick and thin. Today we resolve, with your help, to recognize that this is the day that you have made. We will rejoice in it and be glad in it. Amen.
Morning Prayer (based on 1 Corinthians 7:29-31)
Heavenly Father, we are aware that the appointed time has grown short. You call us to look at the creation in a different light, for the present form of this world is passing away. We look at each other in this new light as well. No longer, Lord, can we label people or put them in a box. We have heard their joys this morning. We have heard of their sufferings. We know that every person in this building is your child, that your mark is set upon them, that you desire we all be one in you. Bless us, and hear our prayers today. Amen.
Children's Benediction
We shout and sing together for joy!
