Object: a coffee can filled with jewelry and money
Good morning, boys and girls. Today we want to talk a little bit about the way God shares all his wonderful blessings with us. I have always thought that it was pretty nice of God to share his world with me. He could have chosen the animals or the plants to share his story with, but instead he chose people. The Bible talks about it in another way. Let me show you what I mean.
Let's suppose that you and I are really coffee cans. Has anyone ever called you a coffee can? (let them answer) I didn't think so. But I want you to pretend that you are an old coffee can. Do you have any old coffee cans at home? (let them answer) What do you use them for? (let them answer) For junk, right! I keep old screws and nails in one coffee can. In another one there are string, washers, old paint brushes, and a lot of rust and dirt. There is nothing very valuable in a coffee can. Just suppose that you are one of God's coffee cans and he has chosen you to carry something around for him. What do you think God would put in you if you were one of his old coffee cans? (let them answer)
Well, the truth of the matter is that God thinks you are a pretty neat coffee can. If we open the coffee can that I have brought and pretend that this is really you, we find that he has put all his jewels inside of you. (show them the coffee can filled with pretty jewelry and money) Wow, what a coffee can! Have you ever seen one like this around your house? Look at the jewels and the money. If you are God's old coffee can, you are really something according to God. He has trusted you with the best that he has. Of course God doesn't put jewels and money inside of us, but he does trust us with the best that he has.
Just think; he gave you the story of all of his heroes to remember. He shared with us his law like the Ten Commandments. He gave us the life of Jesus to keep for ourselves and also to share with others. He taught us how to pray and to forgive. He gave us a place in which to live, all his sunshine, food, and everything else that is really important. All these things he put into people like you and me. We may look like old coffee cans, but we are really something to God.
The next time that you see an old coffee can, I hope it reminds you of this one that I have with me today. When you see it you will say, "I am one of God's coffee cans and that makes me someone really special. I have all God's favorite things inside of me and I can share what he has given with all my friends."
Will you do that too? Wonderful!
