CALL TO WORSHIP
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name; bow down to the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love, Son of grace, Spirit of community, it is easier to recite the creed than to test our faith in the living of it. Self-examination can be painful and we would rather not be put to the test. When we have seen that we are off the track, we do not readily mend our ways. We may exchange the kiss of peace around your table, but we are not always as agreeable in committee meetings. We want to live in peace, but sometimes do so only by withdrawing from people with whom we disagree. Grant us your loving forgiveness, that we may be gracious to those with whom we differ and not break up the community you meant to be unified in the Spirit, for Jesus' sake. Amen.
DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! The Lord will give strength to his people. The Lord will bless his people with peace. Friends, believe the Good News. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
EXHORTATION
Mend your ways; agree with one another; live in peace; and the God of peace will be with you.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Sovereign Lord of heaven and earth, reassure all doubtful disciples of your authority, that they may he obedient to their commission to call all nations to discipleship, baptizing in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
We rejoice in the knowledge of you, O God, for you love righteousness and justice and your love unfailing fills the earth. Your plans will survive when the plans of nations come to nothing. We give thanks to you with all the musical arts we have mastered. They are butfaint praise beside the music of the stars and the majesty of the seas. We stand in awe of the power of creation you have exercised in the scattering of the stars and the gathering of the seas. We are humbly grateful that you receive us as your people for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Without the wisdom andfullness of the Spirit, your church, O God, cannot speak the word and increase the number of disciples. Bless both those who give themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word, and those who are responsible for the distribution of the gifts we bring, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PSALM 8:1-9
O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded
a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them a little lower than God,
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name; bow down to the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
