Call To Worship
Isaiah 6 is a wonderful passage. This Call To Worship incorporates the entire reading.
Leader:
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were angels, each with six wings: With two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." At the sound of their voices the doors shook and the temple filled with smoke.
"Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! I should not speak in the presence of this greatness. All the people should be hushed at the presence of the King, the Lord Almighty."
The world is so filled with spectacle these days. There are few things that impress us enough to cause us to fall silent. Even here where we come to meet God, we fill the time with chatter. His presence ought to silence us; the thought of him humble us. (Brief silence)
Leader:
Let us join the angels in worshiping God.
People:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty;
Leader:
Heaven and earth are full of his glory.
People:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.

Now, there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus
People:
Who came to Jesus at night.
Leader:
He said, "Teacher, we know you have come from God, for no one could do the miracles you do,
People:
Unless God was with him."
Leader:
Jesus said, "Nicodemus, none can see the kingdom of God
People:
Without being born again."
Leader:
"How can that be?" asked Nicodemus.
People:
"Can we re-enter the womb?"
Leader:
Nicodemus was confused.
People:
He didn't get it.
Leader:
But, praise God, we can get it.
People:
We can be born again,
Leader:
Born from above,
People:
Of the Spirit.
Leader:
This morning, let us celebrate the new lives we have in Jesus Christ.

Prayer Of Confession
We have an amazing God, and yet ...
Leader:
Awesome,
People:
Exalted,
Leader:
Majestic,
People:
Frightening,
Leader:
Scary,
People:
Alarming,
Leader:
Knee-buckling,
People:
This is our God.
Leader:
And yet,
People:
And yet,
Leader:
We behave as if God is powerless,
People:
Irrelevant,
Leader:
Unimportant,
People:
Nonexistent.
Leader:
Lord God Almighty, forgive us the arrogance of ignoring you,
People:
Our Maker,
Leader:
And guide us back to walking with you every day,
People:
That in our lives we might find the deep peace
Leader:
And soaring joy you created us for.
People:
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Our second Prayer Of Confession this morning uses Romans 8:12-15 as a springboard. You can begin by quoting the passage.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation not to live according to the old sinful nature. For if we live according to the sinful nature, we will die; but if we live by the Spirit of God we slowly put to death the misdeeds of the body, and we will live, as children of God. After all, we did not receive a spirit that makes us slaves again to fear. No! We received the Spirit that marks us as children of God, and because of this Spirit we can call God, "Abba, Father." If we are God's children, let us live as such.
Pray with me: Abba, in spite of being one of yours, we find that the old fears, and the old temptations, and the old weaknesses still stalk and haunt us. And it is to our shame that we also find ourselves falling into the old ways. We not only need your forgiveness, Lord, we need your power. Help us to live by your Spirit and not according to the old sinful nature. Help us to think the thoughts of your kingdom rather than those of this world. Help us to develop attitudes that are suitable to Christ, rather than ones more suitable to the worldly. Help us to be more than conquerors in Christ Jesus our Lord, for we pray it in his name. Amen.
Assurance Of Pardon
Leader:
Even in your sin, hear this news. God's love for us is such that he will never forsake us, never abandon us, never give up on us.
People:
Never?
Leader:
Never.
People:
Then let us return to him
Leader:
To begin anew.
People:
Amen.
Prayer Of Dedication
Father, when we were children we had nothing of our own. All we had came to us from the hands of our parents. Now that we have been born again into your family; now that we are children again; we recognize that all we have once again comes from the hand of another. All we have and all we are belongs to you, Lord. Take us, make us, and use us as you see fit. Amen.
Pastoral Prayer
Let us pray: Is there anything more precious, Lord, than salvation? We don't talk about it much; we often think of that kind of talk as fanatical; but it is the truth. We were all sinners. We were all on our way to misery. We all deserved the death sentence. But you saved us! You saved us from aimlessness, emptiness, isolation, eternal nothingness.
May our gratitude be great, and our response be love for you and your children everywhere. We especially think of the following who need your love just a little more than the rest of us this morning....
Benediction
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn it, but to save it.
Our God is a great God. Amen.
