JOYCE: (ENTERS ALONG WITH KAYLA AND CHRISTINA) Well, what do you think?
KAYLA: It all sounds scary to me.
JOYCE: It does a little. "After the tribulation, the sun and moon will be darkened, the stars will fall."
CHRISTINA: Scary and confusing. It sounds to me like the Lord isn't in charge any more.
JOYCE: That can't be true. He's all-powerful and eternal, so he's always in charge and always will be.
KAYLA: Of course, but it does sound like everything is going to be out of control.
JOYCE: This passage is talking about the end of the world as we know it, so it's bound to sound different.
KAYLA: The nice thing about it is, Jesus is there.
CHRISTINA: Not just there. He's actually coming back.
JOYCE: Sure, it's the second advent.
CHRISTINA: The second advent.
KAYLA: What's that mean?
JOYCE: It means he's coming back.
KAYLA: No, I mean "advent," what's that mean?
JOYCE: It means arrival.
KAYLA: He's actually going to be here on earth again?
CHRISTINA: And everyone will see him.
KAYLA: Advent means arrival, and this is talking about his second arrival. Then the first arrival must have been at Bethlehem.
JOYCE: That was it. It was the Son of God's first appearance as a human being.
CHRISTINA: As a baby.
KAYLA: But when he returns he will be seen by everyone.
CHRISTINA: That's exciting. Jesus says it himself. He says he will return in clouds with great power and glory.
KAYLA: But what about the next part, sending angels to gather all the elect?
CHRISTINA: That's us. We're going to be with Jesus.
KAYLA: "Elect!" We're the elect?
JOYCE: That's us.
CHRISTINA: I don't quite get that one myself.
KAYLA: Elect? It must have some deep meaning.
JOYCE: Not too deep, really. It just means chosen. We're chosen to become children of God.
KAYLA: But I wasn't chosen by God. I decided to become his child.
JOYCE: Sure you did. We all did, but God, because he is eternal, is outside time and knew we would choose him. And the Holy Spirit worked in your will so that you would choose him when the time was right.
KAYLA: He actually chose me first. That's nice.
CHRISTINA: He loved us before we loved him.
JOYCE: That's it. He loved us outside of time before we loved him at the right time.
KAYLA: Well, he's coming back for me. That takes away all the fear.
JOYCE: And we'll be together. That's comforting.
CHRISTINA: I'll tell you what, let's keep watching for his arrival. (EXIT)
