Call To Worship
Leader: Let the children of God join in this day in praise and song!
People: The Lord is our salvation and we are safe in God's loving care.
Leader: No power on Earth can stand against the power of Almighty God.
People: No danger in the Universe can snatch us from God's loving hand.
Leader: Then let our voices sound forth in song and praise to Almighty God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O Lord, You are indeed the Creator and Sustainer of all the Universe. Give us the courage and strength to place our present and our eternity in Your loving care. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we allow ourselves to seek our safety and security in the powers and the personalities of the world, and we fail to remember that they are only people but You are truly God. Too often we chase after any other temptation to find security rather than humble ourselves and turn to You who controls our eternity. Forgive us, O Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Standing On The Promises"
"My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less"
"It Is Well With My Soul"
Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
Theme: Proclaiming the resurrection
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who worship the risen Christ enter now into God's house!
People: Because Christ is risen the forces of Evil will not prevail.
Leader: The grave will not keep the faithful from their Lord Jesus Christ.
People: Our eternity belongs to the Lord, and Almighty God will be victorious.
Leader: Then let us not be afraid and let us lift our praise to Almighty God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your most loving way You gave us the resurrection of Christ so we might have courage and faith that our eternity truly is in Your hands. Help us to proclaim Your Good News, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have allowed ourselves to think only in the present, and we have not considered the future, much less eternity. We have often made our decisions in life based not on Your will for us, but on our personal wants in life. Forgive us, Lord, and help us view life as You have called us to see it, so that we might move beyond ourselves to eternity. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"He Lives"
"He Touched Me"
"I Need Thee Every Hour"
Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: Luke 6:17-26
Theme: Who are the blessed?
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who have known the blessings of God come together!
People: But our hearts yearn for the Lord and the world does not accept us.
Leader: Blessed are all who hunger and are rejected for the sake of the Lord.
People: Our hearts are saddened by all who reject and scorn God's love.
Leader: Our sadness reflects the very love of God Jesus came to bring us.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and merciful God, in Your infinite wisdom You have claimed those rejected by the world to be among Your beloved ones. Help us to love others as You do, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have accepted the ways of the world and lost sight of the witness You would have our lives be. We choose safety and comfort rather than stand boldly and proclaim Your mercy and grace. Too often we seek the world's acceptance and do not risk rejection by proclaiming Your love. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Heard An Old, Old Story"
"God Of Grace And God Of Glory"
"Rescue The Perishing"
