Call To Worship (Psalm 47)
Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah.
God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the king of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm.
God is king over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted.
Collect
Now you have ascended, Lord, and it is not our place to continue looking for your return. Your angels warned us there is enough to do with spreading the gospel across the globe. Still, we admit that occasionally we look over our shoulder, on the off chance that this moment, this instant, is the one in which you return in glory. You can't blame us. But mostly, we're faithful. We bear your gospel now to the world as we carry our cross in imitation of you. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (1 Timothy 3:16)
Without any doubt the mystery of our religion is great:
He was revealed in flesh,
Vindicated in spirit,
Seen by angels,
Proclaimed among Gentiles,
Believed in throughout the world,
Taken up in glory.
Amen.
Hymns
"Lord, I Lift Your Name On High"
"Majesty"
"Our God Is A Mighty God"
Ascension Of Our Lord
Second Lesson: Ephesians 1:15-23
Theme: The Once And Future King
Call To Worship
See the Lord. Watch him crowned, crowned with many crowns, recognized by all. Bless the Lord, all you people. Come into his presence. Praise the Lord!
Collect
Until the day when everyone around the globe, in our time and in all time, share with us a place in your kingdom, we will continue in our weakness to demonstrate your strength, as we remain your disciples in all seasons. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (Philippians 2:9-11)
One: Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,
All: so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
One and All: and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Hymns
"Crown Him With Many Crowns"
"Come Away To The Skies"
"Praise Him, Praise Him"
Ascension Of Our Lord
Gospel Lesson: Luke 24:44-53
Theme: Still The King
Call To Worship (Psalm 93)
One: The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength. He has established the world; it shall never be moved;
All: your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.
Men: The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.
Women: More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the Lord!
All: Your decrees are very sure; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.
Collect
Risen Lord, we do not love you less since you have been taken from our midst, but we need you more. Allow us to experience in our worship today the sense of your presence in our shared lives. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We are witnesses of these things. We have received the precious word of God preserved across the ages. We have perceived the changed lives that demonstrate Jesus still lives among us. We confess before all the world that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, and ascended in glory to the Father, where he lives and reigns today. Amen.
Hymns
"Rejoice, The Lord Is King!"
"Sing We Triumphant Hymns"
"Look, You Saints, The Sight Is Glorious"
