What Do You Do When You Get Hurt?

Object:
A box of bandage strips that contains the number you need to give one to each child.
Purpose: To show children that we have a responsibility to do what we can to take care of ourselves. After we have done all we can, then we must leave the rest in God's hands.
Material: A box of bandage strips that contains the number you need to give one to each child.
Lesson: Have any of you ever hurt yourself? ... What happened? ... (Let the children share their experiences.) What did you do when you were hurt? ... Most of the time, when we are hurt, we use some medicine and maybe a bandage; and then we wait.
There are wonderful powers at work within us to help us get well again. For example, if you cut your finger, the blood forms a scab that prevents you from losing a lot of blood. You can help that process by protecting the wound and keeping it clean. But the healing will take place in your body simply because God created you that way.
So the lesson we learn from thinking about what happens when we get hurt is to do what we can to make things better and then we wait, for in time healing will take place.
As a reminder of this, I would like each one of you to take a bandage and give it to your mother or father who can carry it with them just in case you can get hurt sometime. They will
then be prepared to do what they can to help you and then you can let God's power work in you.
