Call To Worship
One: What is this?
Two: This is grace and mercy, the gifts of God which rains down upon us whether we deserve it or not.
One: What is this?
Three: This is salvation and shalom, which God gives to us in the wilderness of our lives.
One: What is this?
Two and Three: This is the manna, the "What is it?" the mystery that God shares freely.
All: Take hold of the life that is the true life.
Collect
Let us accept today the Bread of Life freely given to all, but accepted by too few. Let us collect the manna which God has scattered about, both here in our community and around the world. Let us redeem the moment and worship together this day. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Gracious God, in the face of your mysteries we sometimes demand explanations. We resolve to receive what you offer freely and without question, thankful that you have called us to mind as we wander toward your promised land. Amen.
Hymns
"I Hunger And I Thirst"
"Let Us Break Bread Together"
"Blessed Be The Tie That Binds"
Proper 20/Ordinary Time 25
Sunday between September 18 and September 24 inclusive
Second Lesson: Philippians 1:21-30
Theme: To A Retiring Church
Call To Worship (based on Philippians 1:27)
Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ ... standing firm in one spirit, striving side by side with one mind for the faith of the gospel.
Collect
One mind we demonstrate for all,
One faith around the world we hold,
One Spirit gives to each a call,
One potter seeks this church to mold.
Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (built around Philippians 1:21, 29-30)
Lord Jesus, as we follow you on the road to distant Calvary, it may be easy for us to say, with the Apostle Paul that living is Christ and dying is gain. You have granted us the privilege not only of believing in you, but suffering for you as well. As we travel this difficult road help us to endure these struggles together as we testify to your glory through our pain as well as our joy! Amen.
Hymns
"Out Of My Bondage, Sorrow And Night, Jesus I Come"
"My Faith Looks Up To Thee"
"Wonderful Words Of Life"
Proper 20/Ordinary Time 25
Sunday between September 18 and September 24 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 20:1-16
Theme: A New Business Plan
Call To Worship (Psalm 105:1-6)
O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful works.
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.
Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of his servant Abraham, children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
Collect
God of might and majesty, we gather to praise your name and to seek your will for our lives today. May your Word which is read aloud in our midst and your Word which is spoken directly into our hearts guide us in our worship today and our living this week. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
One: Lord, is this justice, that those who work in your garden least should profit as much as those who sweat the whole day long?
All: Praise God, this is mercy, and a sign of the wealth God wishes to share with all.
One: But Lord, is this right, that some of us should work so hard and others so little?
All: Praise God, this is glory, that we should clear the field by our hard labor so that some who are lost might be found all the easier.
Hymns
"We Gather Together"
"Come, Ye Thankful People, Come"
"Bringing In The Sheaves"
