What Time Is It?

Object:
A digital wristwatch, a traditional watch or clock with hands to indicate time, and a kitchen timer.
Message: How many of you here this morning know how to tell time? That is probably something you are working on either at home or at school. Today I brought some examples of things we use to tell time. First I have a watch that shows the numbers for the hours and minutes very clearly. Can anyone tell me what time it says? That's great! Then I have another kind of clock that tells time a little differently. You have to know how to read the time as these hands point to it. How many of you can tell time that way? And then finally I have a kitchen timer here and that is the easiest of all ... you just set the time and it makes a loud "bing" when the time has passed.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes when we are angry with another person, it takes us a long time to feel like we are ready to forgive that person? It might be someone who hurt you when you were out playing on the playground at recess. Or it might be a friend who said something really mean to you and it hurt your feelings. It might even have been someone who disappointed you and did not follow through on something that was promised. Anger builds up in our hearts. Sometimes we even like to stretch it out so that other person sees how angry we are and says "I am sorry for what I did."
Even though the Bible tells us that God is love, there are also times when He becomes angry with people. He can become angry or disappointed because of our sins. However, there is a difference between God's anger and the anger that we feel at times. God promises us that His anger will not last if we come and tell Him we are sorry. His anger lasts only a moment. And that is very good news because when we think of His love and His care for us will never change ... just the opposite is true. They will last forever and we can trust them every day of our lives!
