Who Ends Up Happiest?

Matthew To Revelation
Object: very pretty ribbon and some plain old string
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought along some friends with me this morning and I know that you will enjoy having them here with us. As you can see they are quite different looking, but they both hang around in the same drawer at my house.
First of all I would like to introduce you to Randy Ribbon. Randy is a little strange and actually has very few real friends in the drawer. Occasionally the pearl--handled pocketknife and Randy talk to one another, but most of the other folks in the drawer ignore him. They think he is a bore. Randy likes to talk a lot about himself and very seldom listens to what other people have to say. He really thinks that he is too good for the other drawer people. He says that he is handsome and when people complain about the fact that he never works, he only tells them that he is being saved for something special. That's Randy.
But I also want you to meet Sally String. Now Sally is a good old girl and everyone likes her. She also stays in the drawer when she is not being used. Sally is different from Randy. Sally is used for a lot of different projects. One time she is used to help hold a piece of furniture together that is being glued, while at another I tie her around my finger to help me remember something I don't want to forget. Why, one time Sally was even used as a toy for the brand new kitten. They rolled Sally up into a ball and then rolled her on the carpet. She talks to everyone in the drawer and everyone talks to Sally.
My reason for showing you my friends is because there is something to be learned from Randy and Sally. One day there was a birthday party at my house and it came time to wrap the presents. Sally would have loved to have been used on the bright shiny paper that the birthday present was wrapped in and said so, but she knew that she would never be chosen. She was too plain and common. But Randy was ready. He looked up and held out his cut end and waited to be picked. Sure enough, Randy was chosen. I will have to admit Randy looked just great on the present. He is so good looking he could hardly wait until someone said something. But instead of anyone talking about Randy, they simply tore him apart and looked inside the package. Randy was crushed and torn and thrown away. Now the best part is yet to come. Poor Sally who wanted so badly to be used on the bright birthday paper was also finally chosen. The present was a kite and today Sally flies high in the sky while Randy was rescued from the garbage can.
The Bible tells us why this happened. The Bible says that anyone who thinks too much of himself will be humbled and the humble will be well thought of. Something for you and me to remember and for Randy to learn. God bless you.
