Cycle C, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us praise God and share the Gospel of Christ in every land!
People: But how will people know our witness is true and genuine?
Leader: The Word of the Lord will speak through our lives and words.
People: Just as we heard the Good News, we are called to share it with others.
Leader: Then let us share it freely and openly and let our joy resound.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O Lord, our most wonderful Savior, in Your gracious love You have granted to us Your salvation, not for us to keep, but for us to share with all around us. Give us the vision to keep sharing it. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, You heard our cries and prepared for us a plan of salvation, calling us to be Your witnesses in the world today. Too often, Lord, we have received Your grace and mercy, but we have not been willing to share it as You commanded us. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the courage and strength to share Your Gospel wherever we go all the days of our lives. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"All Glory, Laud, And Honor"
"O Love Divine, What Hast Thou Done"
"There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood"
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:51-58
Theme: Hear God's wonderful mystery
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, hear the wonderful mystery of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
People: For Jesus came, God with us, and set aside all glory for our sake.
Leader: Then Jesus died on the cross, at the hands of mortals, to give us life.
People: Yet God's victory over death is clear in the resurrection of Christ.
Leader: These things we cannot explain, yet each proclaims the glory of God!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and wonderful God, in Your divine wisdom which surpasses our mortal ability to fully comprehend, You sent the Christ to redeem and restore us. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we have been quick to rely only on our wisdom and science to understand life, and we have too quickly dismissed the wonderful mysteries of our faith. If we cannot explain a matter, we deny it has any truth within it. Forgive us, Lord, and help us celebrate that the Gospel of Christ goes beyond the limitations of our mere mortal minds. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Wonderful Words Of Life"
"Tell Me The Story Of Jesus"
"When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: Luke 6:39-49
Theme: Following the wisdom of Christ
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come together to focus our thoughts upon the Lord!
People: Let us set aside all that would take our eyes away from God.
Leader: Lord, give us wisdom that we may know Your ways from our own;
People: And bring us together in the unity only Your Holy Spirit brings.
Leader: In the blessed harmony of God's love, give praise unto the Lord!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty Creator God, Your ways are not our ways, but You have called us to follow You and learn to love one another. Guide us, O Lord, into Your wonderful paths of righteousness. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we argue about the small things or are divided over what we see as major issues of the faith, and we do not hear Your commandment to "love one another." We give witness to division and strife rather than Your unity and harmony. Help us today, Lord, to share Your presence and love with all we meet around us. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
"Lift High The Cross Of Jesus"
"What A Friend We Have In Jesus"
