To You, O LORD, I Lift Up My Soul
Devotional
Companion to the Psalter
A Devotional Guide to the Psalms
Object:
Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
teach my your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long ...
My eyes are ever toward the LORD,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.
-- Psalm 25:4-5, 15
Theme: Prayer and reflection on the character of God
Outline
1-7 -- Prayer for protection, guidance, and forgiveness.
8-15 -- Reflections on the character and ways of God.
16-21 -- Concluding prayer for deliverance and preservation.
22 -- An added prayer for the nation.
Notes
• Alphabetical -- Meditation
• Sins = "to miss the mark," denoting the failures, errors, and lapses through the offences of youth (v. 7).
• Transgressions = "rebellions," the deliberate offences perhaps of mature years.
For Reflection
• Almost every verse is a memory gem on which to meditate.
• "Make me to know your ways." What are these ways of God, as cited in verses 8-15? How does Jesus provide the complete and perfect answer to this prayer? What does God do for sinners, for the humble, for those who "fear" him? What effect should this have on one's attitude and actions?
Prayer
O God, our truest, dearest friend, we look to you with trust and hope in your teaching and leading, that all the way through this life we may be faithful followers of your Son and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
