All-Powerful God, When Your Church Is Filled With Your Spirit...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
These responses may be used:
Let us pray for the Church and for the world, and let us thank God for his goodness.
Almighty God our heavenly father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.
All-powerful God, when your Church is filled with your Spirit it becomes powerful in the most unexpected ways. But your Church often sees power in earthly terms, and forgets that it must embrace weakness and vulnerability if it wants to be strong. Help your Church to cling always to you, stepping forwards through faith alone.
Today with the world-wide church we continue to pray especially for your Church in Nigeria, and for your Church in Norway, this week for Agder and its Bishop, Olav Skjevesland.
Strengthen N our bishop and all your Church in the service of Christ; that those who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
All-powerful God, nations and governments know only one kind of power. Help all our leaders to so love their countries and their peoples that they dare to begin to seek for your kind of power, in order that peace might reign supreme throughout the world. Help all those countries suffering from industrial disputes to settle their differences for the good of all the people.
Bless and guide Elizabeth our queen; give wisdom to all in authority; and direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
All-powerful God, in most families for some of the time, and in some families for most of the time, children are regarded as a nuisance. Remind us all that to look at a tiny child's unconditional love and acceptance is to look at you, and that we must all become vulnerable and trusting if we are to enter your kingdom.
Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours; that we may serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
All-powerful God, when our friends or family members are sick, we expect you to instantly heal them using the sort of power we humans recognise. Remind us that your power is quite different, and is most obvious in times of vulnerability and weakness. And so we simply hold our loved ones who are sick in your presence, asking you to lay your healing hands upon them as we name them in our own hearts...
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit...; give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
All-powerful God, although we know that Jesus conquered death, it still seems extraordinarily powerful, for it produces in us extreme and painful emotions. Hold in your arms those who have lost loved ones either recently, or in previous years at this time. May they feel your arms around them, giving them the strength and support and love they need. Especially we remember the family of ...., and those for whom this time of year brings a sad anniversary....
Hear us as we remember those who have died in the faith of Christ....; according to your promises grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Rejoicing in the fellowship of (N and of) all your saints, we commend ourselves and all people to your unfailing love.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
