Bread of life, I'm so hungry. But I've learned to be picky with my food. I like this and I don't like that, and I don't seem to care whether or not it feeds me. Bread of life, give me a taste for bread. Make me so hungry for it that I'll ignore any luxury trifles however tempting they may be, in order to get straight to my daily bread. And bread of Life, teach me to chew it properly, so that I may receive the exciting, vibrant life that only you can give.

God of Creation, you provide resources for all your people. You provide bread for our physical needs, and bread for our spiritual needs. Help your Church to identify the bread you offer, and to receive it warmly. Today with the world-wide church we pray especially for your Church in Cuba, and your Church in Nidaros (Norway), that the bread they receive from you might transform the church and the people.

God of justice, many of our fellow human beings are constantly hungry. They don't receive weekly bread, let alone daily bread and it doesn't seem fair. God of justice, help all our governments to become so concerned about the plight of impovershed people that they work together to produce good-quality daily bread.

God of compassion, it isn't always easy to know when I'm really hungry. Sometimes I crave sweet foods, but that isn't really hunger. Help me to remember that a balanced diet is necessary for shining health. And help me to identify my spiritual hunger, then to make sure I come to you to assuage it, and make sure that my spiritual diet is well-balanced..
