Broken God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Broken God, you allowed yourself to be broken and stripped by human beings, and used that brokenness and stripping to our advantage, to show us the way to your kingdom. Despite all we humans forced upon you, you still went on loving us. Broken God, I hate and dread brokenness because it hurts so much. But when my life events lead to brokenness, help me to live and learn and grow through it, that I may meet with you, my risen and living Lord.
Broken God, help me to live and learn and grow through my brokenness, and go on loving despite it. And through it, may I meet with you, my risen and living Lord.
Broken God, brokenness is often forced upon your Church and we usually react against the suffering. Help us to understand that you use every occasion of pain for our growth, and that if your Church is to be purified it must face the fire. When we struggle to keep going, feeling like strangers in a hostile world, remind us that trod this path before us and saw it through to the end, continuing to love human beings no matter what they did to you. Help us to continue to love as you love us.
With Christians throughout the world we pray especially today for the Congo, and Archbishop Patrice Njojo (Boga), and for Brechin in Scotland and Bishop Neville Chamberlain.
Broken God, when we in the Church struggle to keep going, remind us that brokenness is necessary for growth and help us to continue to love as you love us. We pray especially today for the Congo, and Archbishop Patrice Njojo (Noga), and for Brechin in Scotland and Bishop Neville Chamberlain.
Broken God, we human beings broke you on the cross and we continue to break each other through war and violence, through hatred and contempt, through hunger and want. Prod our social conscience into life, so that we might treat other people as you treated them, and demand equal rights for all human beings and peace in our imperfect world.

Broken God, help us to meet with all types of people within our own community. May we resist the temptation to mix only with our own kind, but reach out in genuine friendship to others. Give us the words to say, but more than that, give us willing hearts so that we may welcome all comers and strangers become neighbours.
Broken God, help us to meet with all types of people within our own community so that strangers become neighbours.
Broken God, we hold under the fountain of your healing love all those who are sick, especially ... May they be drenched with prayer, so that you can touch them and heal them. Support and strengthen their families and friends, especially any who anxiously watch and wait.

Broken God, hold and comfort the dying, especially any who are afraid. May they see your risen glory as you come to meet them, and reach out to take your hand as you lead them gently into their new life beyond death. Comfort and support those who have lost someone they love, and give them your strength, so that they too may discover resurrection within their own lives.
