Courageous God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Courageous God, my courage is thin. I like my comfort, and I love it when my life runs smoothly and without upset. I hate and dread stripping or crucifixion, since it always feels like the end and there's never any resurrection in sight. Courageous God, hold my hand as I go through the stripping process. Enable me to cling to you even if I have no sense of your presence, and teach me eventually to welcome stripping, because I know it's an opportunity to grow towards you and to experience you in an entirely new way. And so Lord, help me to grow up and to ditch all my comfort blankets.
Courageous God, give me the strength and courage to endure difficult times and enable me to welcome them, because through them I grow towards you.
Courageous God, as Thomas asked difficult questions in his search for the truth, so theologians today continue to ask difficult questions on behalf of your whole Church. May we in the Church be prepared to suffer discomfort and even fear as we too continue a quest for the truth. Remind us the living stones need to be flexible, and that a Church which is petrified into a museum piece will neither grow nor experience you in all your glory.
With Christians world-wide we pray especially today for Kenya with Archbishop David Gitari, and Glasgow and Galloway (Scotland) with Bishop Idris Jones.

Courageous God, so often the world seems to be better at throwing stones than at using them for building good foundations. Teach all your children the attributes of living stones - strength, courage, protection, working together, and living and growing. May your world learn to value each other and to defend and protect the weakest in society. And may we all pull together to eradicate poverty and the abuse of each other's humanity.

Courageous God, help us to notice those who are especially vulnerable in our own community. Open our eyes so that we may venture amongst those who we hardly notice and learn to care enough to befriend and support them. Be with all who need external comfort in order to face life, and help them to see that in you their search is finished and they can come home.
Courageous God, be with the vulnerable in our community, and with those who need external comfort in order to cope with life. Help them to see that the gap in their lives can only filled by you.
Courageous God, may your body the Church so work together as living stones that they support and strengthen all those who are sick, and their carers. Remind us that we are a Royal Priesthood and as such are responsible for transmitting your love and care and healing power to those who are sick amongst us. And so we pray for the sick, naming them before you ...
