Giver Of Gifts, You Founded Your Church As The Body Of Christ...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority The local community Those who suffer The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
Giver of gifts, you founded your Church as the body of Christ to ensure that your message continued throughout the ages, and to enable that to happen, you gave many gifts to your people. But it hasn't always worked out as perhaps you wished, for many gifted people don't attend Church, and those who do attend are sometimes unsure of their gifts. Giver of gifts, remind your Church that you started with water at Cana, but changed that water into quality wine. Enable every member of your Church so to open themselves to your love that your gifts begin to develop within them. And give every member the courage to use the gifts you have given them for the good of your Church and community.
In our own church we pray especially today for .....
Giver of gifts, those who rule over us are chosen as leaders and usually start as good wine. But sometimes they become drunk with their own power so that your gift turns rancid and poisonous. In the difficult task of ruling, either world-wide, nationwide, or locally, we ask you to keep the wine fresh and to continue to change water into wine for all our benefits.
We pray especially today for the rulers of countries in conflict, especially ....
Giver of gifts, you have provided many and varied talents in our local community, sufficient to keep the community running smoothly. May all those in this community be aware of their responsibilities. May no-one feel they are isolated or alone, but may all feel a necessary part of this community, for if one member of the body defaults, the whole community suffers. Give us compassion and forbearance and respect in our regard for each other, and help us to heal any divisions before they erupt into wounds.
We hold in your presence today ....
Giver of gifts, we thank you for your gifts of healing which have been so strongly developed within our Health Service, and through our medical schools and nursing colleges and ancillary services. As we bring before you those who are sick, we pray especially for all those who work for their healing and for those who anxiously watch and wait.
We ask your healing touch especially for ....
Giver of gifts, when death approaches it often seems like you have withdrawn your healing touch. We sometimes fail to realise that death produces the finest wine of all, by providing a gateway to all your gifts as the veil is lifted. But the pain and sorrow felt by those who have lost someone they love is very acute, and so we commend to your loving care those who have recently been bereaved, especially .... and those for whom this time of year brings back tragic memories, especially ....
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
