God Of Creation, You Gave Us Laws...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
These responses may be used:
Let us pray for the Church and for the world, and let us thank God for his goodness.
Almighty God our heavenly father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.
God of Creation, you gave us laws in order that we might more easily search out your heart and discover your will. But human beings have ignored your heart and turned instead to legalism to authorise their own actions. God of creation, your Church is sometimes legalistic, with resultant damage to other people. When your Church must decide on the correct course of action, enable it to hear your voice, to harmonise with your heart, and to follow your will.
Today with the world-wide church we pray especially for your Church in Tanzania, also for Bjorgvin in Norway with its Bishop, Ole Hagesaether.
Strengthen N our bishop and all your Church in the service of Christ; that those who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of Creation, you created human beings as companions and friends and support for each other. But human beings preferred to dominate and to fight, so that our world is place of violence and tension and inequality. Give to those who rule over us, the will to aspire towards friendship and companionship and support, so that there may be fair shares for all, and all may live in a heritage of peace.
Bless and guide Elizabeth our queen; give wisdom to all in authority; and direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of Creation, you created us so that we might enjoy lifelong companionship with each other. Enable us to realise that love and companionship require hard work, and that commitment in marriage is often the result of working through pain. May we show deep compassion to those who are suffering in marriage, and to those whose marriage has foundered.
Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours; that we may serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of Creation, you created us for health and vitality and enjoyment of life, but sometimes things go wrong. We bring into your presence those of our friends and families who are sick, asking you to lay your healing hands upon them ...... We name them in our own hearts...
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit...; give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of Creation, the result of lifelong companionship and friendship can be utter desolation when one partner dies. Some of our friends feel hurt and bereft because someone they love has died, either recently, or in previous years at this time. May they feel your arms around them, giving them the strength and support and love they need. Especially we remember the family of ...., and those for whom this time of year brings a sad anniversary....
Hear us as we remember those who have died in the faith of Christ....; according to your promises grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Rejoicing in the fellowship of (N and of) all your saints, we commend ourselves and all people to your unfailing love.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
