God Of Life, It's Difficult To Be Grateful...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God of life, it's difficult to be grateful for bad times; mostly I want to rage and rail against them. But I've discovered that you're with me in the bad times, even though I often can't feel your presence at the time. God of life, enable me to offer the bad times to you, so that you can redeem them for me and bring good out of evil. Help me to maintain my own integrity and to hold onto you, so that you can use those dark times to help me grow. May I remember that life is a pattern of highs and lows, and that you use the whole of life for my benefit.
God of life, enable me to offer you the bad times as well as the good times, so that you can redeem them for me and bring good out of evil.
God of life, help members of your Church to love each other. May we never despise those who worship differently, but encourage and support them in their own particular way. Help us always to live in harmony with each other so that we are not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
With all Christians, we pray especially today for your Church in Central Africa with Archbishop Walter Makhulu and your Church in Oslo, Norway, with Bishop Gunnar Stalsett.

God of life, when sudden terror hits our world, enable us to cope with it. We pray for those whose lives are threatened by adverse weather conditions such as flood or drought, tornado, hurricane or earthquake. We pray too for those whose lives are threatened by violence, whether the organised violence of war or terrorism, or domestic violence. Be with all these human beings as they struggle to cope with their own crosses, especially those who live in constant fear.

God of life, we pray for all communities in which evil flourishes beneath the surface. Give those who are aware of evil strength to cope with it, and those who are unaware, eyes to see. God of life, hold in your strong and comforting arms, those who are sick. May they know your healing power as it courses through their body, mind and soul. May their strength return and may they soon be restored to us in full health. We pray for them in our own hearts... and we name especially before you ...

God of life, cradle the dying as you call them home, and support those who will miss them so much. May those who have recently lost someone they love know see you, the light of the world, reaching out to them in their sorrow. We name them before you ... and those who are still sad over someone who died in a previous year at around this time...
