The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints

Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God of the living, it isn't always easy to believe in life after death. My senses tell me that if you exist, then some sort of existence beyond this present one isn't beyond the bounds of possibility. But my brain tells me that whether or not Lazarus was restored to life 2,000 years ago, absolutely no-one has really come back from the dead in living memory. It all feels rather confusing and uncertain. Lord, help me to realise that my faith develops through uncertainties, that if something was certain I'd have no need for faith. And Lord, remind me that I only need faith the size of a mustard seed, for you do all the rest.
God of the living, give me the faith to believe in your promises of eternal life, even when that faith is hard for me.
God of the living, may the world-wide Christian Church be so filled with the your Spirit that through the Church the world begins to experience the brilliance and wonder of eternal life. May your Church identify those sinful tendencies within which lead to death, and follow you so closely that sin is replaced by your Spirit within.
Today we pray especially for your Church in Karamoja, Uganda, with Bishop Peter Lomongin.
God of the living, fill your Church with your Spirit, that sin within the world-wide Church may be destroyed and it may be lifted to the brilliance of eternal life.
God of the living, so much of the world leads to death and destruction. We constantly see buildings, infrastructure, people and innocence destroyed in our world, so that it always seems as though we're controlled by sin and helpless under its effects. As you raised Lazarus from the dead, so we ask you to raise our world from its death of sin to new life and purpose.

God of the living, we pray for those who, in their daily life, are engaged with death. And so we hold within your presence Macmillan and Marie Curie nurses and all who nurse the terminally ill; the police and fire service and all those who attend fatal accidents; the Samaritans and all those who counsel the suicidal; priests and all those who are concerned with funerals; and all those who work in abbatoirs. Give them strength and compassion and endurance, and fill them with the knowledge of your resurrection and life after death, that their lives may not be destroyed by their work.

God of the living, we pray for those who are facing their own death or the death of a loved one. Give them courage and support, that they may know the truth of your promises to be with them always. And we ask your healing touch for all who are ill, naming them before you ....
