God Of Love, You Offer Me Such Profound Love...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God of love, you offer me such profound love that you'll even calm the waves for me. In return, I offer you my turbulent and frightening and overwhelming life. It doesn't seem much of a gift, but you're the only one who can make anything of it, and I know you can walk on its surface no matter how high the waves. God of love, take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee. Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee. Take my intellect and use every whit as thou wouldst choose. Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for thee. (Part of a hymn by Frances R. Havergal, 1836-1879)
God of love, you even calm the sea for me, so I offer you my turbulent and frightening and overwhelming life, knowing that you can walk on its surface no matter how high the waves.
God of love, help your Church to keep pace with the changes of modern life. As life-styles radically alter, enable the Church to accommodate those changes, so that many more will be able to hear the message of your love. May those whom you are calling hear your voice and respond, aware that you are with them giving them the strength and skills they need to fulfill all of your purposes for them.
With the world-wide Church we pray especially today for your Church in Southern Africa with Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane and your Church in Stockholm, with Bishop Caroline Krook.

God of love, sometimes our world feels so precarious that it's like being tossed about on the vast ocean in a matchbox. Remind us that you are Lord of the sea, that even the winds and the waves obey you, and that you walk on their surface. Be with those of our leaders who feel as though they are drowning, and strengthen those who through their integrity, swim against the tide. May our leaders regard all people not as flotsam and jetsam to be carried along by the power of others, but as fish with the right to life and food and territory.
We pray especially today ...

God of love, we pray today for all those who have recently moved into our community, especially those who have come from a very different place or a very different life-style. Help them to settle here, and to be happy amongst us. Call those within your Church with a gift for hospitality and encourage them to go out and welcome newcomers. And be with those of our friends who have moved on to another place and a new way of life. May their feelings of loss soon fade, and may they quickly feel at home at their new address.
In our own community we pray especially today ...

God of love, amongst those who are sick, we pray especially today for those who suffer from excess fear. As you reached out to Peter when he was drowning, reach out to them now and hold them fast. We pray too for those of our friends and families who need your healing touch, and in our hearts we hold them in your presence ...

God of love, may those suffering deep, inner pain through the death of someone they love, be comforted. May they know without any trace of doubt that those who have died, are alive with you in some different dimension. Ease their pain and support them through their grief, that they may emerge courageous and full of hope. We name them in your presence ... and we remember too, those who still feel pain because of a death in a previous year at this time ...

Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
