God, lover of the childlike, so often I catch myself being utterly childish. I pout and sulk when things don't go my way, and pretend I can't do anything unless someone comes with me. I know you understand the inner fears which cause me to act in this way, but such childish behaviour is ugly and cramping. Help me to develop the childlike qualities of fun and delight and laughter. Enable me to face my inner fears, and give me the confidence to choose the difficult option, like a grown-up person. Encourage me to step outside the limiting restrictions I impose upon myself, so that I too may experience vibrant, exciting life in all its fullness - life as you would have me live it.
God, lover of the childlike, help me to put aside childish ways, but to embrace the child within me. Give me the confidence to choose the difficult option, so that I too may reach wholeness and health.
God, lover of the childlike, we in your Church are so often childish in our reactions to those who worship differently. Help us to grow up so that we may celebrate our childlike qualities. Show us the way to take up our collective cross in order that we might follow you and discover a resurrected Church.

God, lover of the childlike, we pray for our world and express our sorrow for the ways in which we constantly mar it. Enable us to rejoice in its delights and to show sufficient concern to work to put right its problems and injustices. We pray for all those we elect to represent us, especially those who represent us on the world stage, that they might have that wisdom which is denied the rich and important, but revealed to the humble.

God, lover of the childlike, we pray for the children in our own community. May they be allowed to grow and develop into the people they were always meant to be. May we be very aware of the damage that can be done to our children by too tight or too loose a rein. Enable us to handle our children with such genuine love that they blossom into beautiful adults.

May they know that our thoughts and prayers are with them, supporting and upholding them and offering them our love. And even in their anguish, may they know your presence and your compassion. We name them before you... and we also remember those who are sad because of bereavement in previous years.
