God Of Mystery, Long Ago The Church Said That You Are Three Persons...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
These responses may be used:
Let us pray for the Church and for the world, and let us thank God for his goodness.
Almighty God our heavenly father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.
God of mystery, long ago the Church said that you are three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - but that you are one God. How can we comprehend such a mystery today? How is it possible for you to be three in one, one in three? Yet we know that to see Jesus was to see you, and that we relate to you today through the Holy Spirit. God of mystery, help your world-wide Church to present eternal truths in today's language; to explore ancient concepts with integrity; to struggle with unfamiliar ideas until they make some kind of sense.
With the Church across the world we pray especially today for rural areas of Victoria, Australia, asking that the gospel may be so presented that young people can hear the good news.
Strengthen N our bishop and all your Church in the service of Christ; that those who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Trinitarian God, religion is confusing. Even Christianity is so diverse. Some claim to be "Jesus people", some are concerned mainly with the Spirit, and yet others seem to relate only to the Father. But narrow religion is so dangerous; it seems to breed fanaticism and hatred, not openness and love. Trinitarian God, remind us that you are three in one, that you cannot be confined, and that your three persons are constantly relating to each other in love, as we must relate in love if the world is to survive.
Bless and guide Elizabeth our queen; give wisdom to all in authority; and direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, your constantly moving and adapting relationship within the Godhead is a model for our relationships here on earth. Teach us to give and to take, to step back and to step forward, to offer and to accept responsibility, to be sensitive to the needs of others and to our own needs. Help us to give of our best within the family, as you always give of your best through each other.
Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours; that we may serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
There are some, Lord God, who have no energy left for struggling with difficult ideas. They are sick and only have sufficient energy for survival. But when you were on earth as a human being you spent much of your time healing the sick. And now, after your ascension, you have sent your Spirit to heal those who suffer. We pray especially for.....
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit...; give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Father God, we know you wait to receive us into your presence after death, for we know your Son went before us to prepare the way. Death is a great sadness for us, but we rejoice to know that your Spirit will comfort both those who have died and those they have left behind them. And at the last, we too shall see and understand. We ask you to pour out your blessings on those who have recently experienced death, especially.....
Hear us as we remember those who have died in the faith of Christ....; according to your promises grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Rejoicing in the fellowship of (N and of) all your saints, we commend ourselves and all people to your unfailing love.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
