God Of Refining Fire...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
These responses may be used:
Let us pray for the Church and for the world, and let us thank God for his goodness.
Almighty God our heavenly father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.
God of refining fire, sometimes one branch of your Church shows intolerance towards another branch. Sometimes one branch of your Church claims exclusive rights to you. May all your church be so salted with fire that we open our arms to one another, accepting and welcoming each other in your name.
Today with the world-wide church we continue to pray especially for your Church in Tanzania with Archbishop Donald Mtelemela, and for your Church in Stavanger in Norway, with Bishop Ernst Baasland.
Strengthen N our bishop and all your Church in the service of Christ; that those who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of refining fire, governments are naturally jealous for their own particular country, but when that jealousy becomes nationalism it becomes dangerous. May governments be so open to the truth about themselves, that may always spot danger signals and take the right steps to eradicate any evil, so that we have salt in ourselves and be at peace with one another.
Bless and guide Elizabeth our queen; give wisdom to all in authority; and direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of refining fire, sometimes discipline within the family or disagreement amongst friends, can cause immense pain and suffering. When we are agents of refining fire, give us gentleness of approach, that the administration of proper discipline may enhance and enable those for whom it is applied.
Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours; that we may serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of refining fire, we bring into your presence those of our friends and families who are sick. Sometimes sickness needs drastic and painful remedies, which seem to increase suffering before they are effective. Give to those who are sick, the strength to endure what must be endured, that their sickness may be eradicated forever.
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit...; give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
God of refining fire, bereavement is an experience which strips us and leaves us in floundering pain. May you use that pain within those who are bereaved, to act as a salting with fire, that they may grow towards you even as they mourn those they have loved. Especially at this time we remember the family of ...., and those for whom this time of year brings a sad anniversary....
Hear us as we remember those who have died in the faith of Christ....; according to your promises grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom.
Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
Rejoicing in the fellowship of (N and of) all your saints, we commend ourselves and all people to your unfailing love.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
