These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God, triumphant, kingly, yet humble, it would be so much easier to follow you if things were either black or white. Yet with growing humility comes the realisation that they are so often several shades of grey. Sometimes it's difficult to know what to believe, or which line to follow. God of humility, save me from the arrogance of thinking that I'm always right, or that my way is the only way. Give me the sensitivity and courage to listen to other points of view, even when that brings the risk that I might have to shift my own carefully nurtured position. But kingly God, when I really discover the truth, give me the integrity and the boldness to proclaim it.
God triumphant yet humble, save me from the arrogance of thinking that I'm always right. Give me the sensitivity and courage to listen to other points of view, but when I really discover the truth, give me the integrity and the boldness to proclaim it.
God of victory, when you rode triumphantly into the city, all the people recognised you as conqueror. But they'd got it wrong, because your victory is quite different to earthly victory. Your greatest moment of triumph was on the cross, when you were beaten and helpless. Help your church to recognise earthly victories for what they are, and to strive for those victories which can only be experienced through pain, after crucifixion. Today with Christians worldwide we give thanks for Jerusalem and the Middle East, and for all that the Holy Land has meant to your people throughout the ages.

God of anger, you expressed your anger in violence when you cleared the temple of those who were abusing it, but your violence was controlled and caused no injury. In the world our anger is expressed with such uncontrolled violence that human beings are tortured, maimed and killed. God of anger, teach us how to express our feelings without damage to others. We pray for people in those desecrated areas of the world where at the moment, violence is a way of life...

God of triumph, you were on the crest of a wave on that first Palm Sunday, when the crowds recognised you as their king. But the wave soon crashed and you shortly experienced betrayal and desertion. Our lives also follow a wave pattern in which peaks and troughs follow each other. Help us to follow you by enjoying the peaks and accepting the troughs and learning more of you through every experience we have.
God of triumph, help us to follow you by enjoying the peaks of life but accepting its troughs, and learning more of you through every experience we have.
God of compassion, when you entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey the whole city went wild with excitement. We too enjoy carnivals and festivals, but some of our friends cannot share in the good times because they are sick. But you have always had compassion on the sick, so we bring into your presence those who are ill or suffering, especially....

God of courage, when you rode the donkey, you were riding to your eventual death. You knew death would be the outcome when you set your face towards Jerusalem, and although you didn't want to die you never flinched. Some of our friends are dying or have died, and with their loved ones they need your strength and your courage. We remember them before you now... The families and friends of John Bartram and Peggy Kandy.

We ask these prayers through Jesus Christ, who was a king but the servant of all.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
