Healing And Compassionate God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Healing and compassionate God, your body the Church is so fragmented that it resembles Legion named in the gospels, living amongst the dead. Command the sickness of individualism to leave the Church, and enable the Church to hear that command and respond to it. May we learn to love one another, reaching out to one another across the barriers of race and gender and status, so that within the Church all are equal and all are united.
We pray especially today for your Church in Lund in Sweden, and Bishop Christina in her work there.
Healing and compassionate God, turn the passion of the nations into compassion, that they may learn to suffer with each other and support each other and care for each other. We pray especially for those areas of the world where passions run high and hatreds form too easily, and ask that by some miracle nations at war with each other might become united in peace. We pray especially for children caught up in national passions and national violence, that they may learn to love rather than to hate. We pray for the work of the United Nations, and especially for Bishop James Ottley and his staff there. We pray especially for the nations of....
Healing and compassionate God, fragmented individuals cause fragmented families and fragmented communities. Heal the fractures deep within each of us and help us to become united within ourselves and at peace with ourselves. May we never be content simply to plaster over the cracks, but willing and eager to always seek for depth of healing, even when the treatment is painful. We pray especially today for those families known to us where adults have split up and families are in danger of breaking apart.
Healing and compassionate God, we hold in your presence those of our number who are sick, knowing that your "togetherness" holds within it deep healing. May those who are sick be very aware of your presence watching over them and guarding them. And may they reach out and take hold of your strength, that their own strength may begin to recover.
We name before you....
Healing and compassionate God, sometimes the only healing possible is death, for after death your beloved children go on to new life and new and vibrant health with you, in a different dimension. We pray for those who suffer the wrenching pain of parting, and ask that they may understand that their loved ones are with you, and that we can join with them here on earth in the great Communion of Saints. And may those who are bereaved feel confident that one day they will meet their loved ones again.
we remember before you especially ...
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
