Overwhelmingly Generous God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Overwhelmingly generous God, sometimes I begrudge other people, because I think I've "earned" more than them and should therefore be higher up the table. Take away my meanness of spirit, flood the dark parts of my inner being with your light, and help me to so exult in your huge, limitless love, that your generosity spills over and through me and onto all whom I meet.
Generous God, take away my meanness of spirit and flood the dark parts of my inner being with your light, so that your generosity spills over and through me and onto all whom I meet.
Generous God, enable your Church to welcome all comers with generosity of spirit, suspending any judgment of them and offering them only love. May the different branches of your Church open their doors to each other, accepting each other's differences and delighting in our combined richness of experience.
Today across the world we pray especially for your Church in Nigeria, and in Tunsberg (Norway) with Bishop Sigurd Osberg.

Generous God, may the world wake up to your immense generosity of spirit, and learn to emulate it. In our gratitude for your love and your gifts to us, may we human beings learn to act with forgiveness and understanding towards each other. And may we be particularly concerned with those who are genuinely needy, doing our best to ensure that they are fully supported by the rest of the world.

Generous God, enable us to listen properly to all members of our community so that we may hear and understand any problems and difficulties. May we listen especially closely to those who are on the margins of our community, and help them to take their proper place amongst us all.

Generous God, we hold within your healing presence all who have recently been torn apart by the death of someone close to them. May they be comforted by your presence and know that the clouds will lift for them. We name them before you ... also those who approach this time of year with sadness or depression because of a death in a previous year...
