Risen And Living God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Risen and living God, sometimes you are so unexpected that your Church has difficulty in identifying you. Sometimes your voice calls through people who don't fit the establishment picture, and that makes it difficult to hear your words. Help us in your Church to be so accepting of all human beings that we are open and sensitive to your will, and give us the courage and strength to follow wherever you may lead.
Risen and living God, there often seems to be so much corporate sin and evil in the world that it sometimes seems you are no longer present. When we hear about small children working as slaves in factories, or people dying of hunger, or the spread of awful diseases because of the lack of simple drugs, the world's problems feel overwhelming. Help us to avoid the pie-in-the-sky syndrome of evading all hard decisions by sitting back and leaving it up to you, because we assume everything will be all right in the end. Even as we retain our faith in your promises, give us a strong soical conscience and the courage to change things in this life.
Risen and living God, may we see you not on the distant shore but face to face, so that all our thoughts, words and actions are coloured by personal knowledge of your presence. But may we never be content to rest on our own laurels, and instead strive always to improve conditions for those with whom we live and work. And may we be so concerned about all our collective children that our major priority is to bring them up to know you as their God.
Risen and living God, you had amazing powers of healing when you were on earth, but after you rose from death your powers were even greater. We hold in your loving presence those of our friends and families who are sick, asking you to pour the force of your healing power into them. We name them before you now....
Risen and living God, your physical presence after death holds such hope for human beings. We know that you promised new life for us human beings too after our deaths, and we thank you that our loved ones who have died are with you now. Be with those who are bereaved as they struggle with pain and loneliness, and may they know for themselves that life after death, although different, is very good. We name before you those for whom we feel particular concern at this time....
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
