Risen God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Risen God, I'm a mass of contradictions. Sometimes I believe in you so strongly that I want to shout about you from the rooftops, but at other times I'm not so certain. Like Thomas, I doubt. Sometimes I'm full of radiant joy at your presence and longing to swim in the ocean of life with you, but at other times I'm too afraid even to dip my toes in the water. Risen God, may I know you more fully, believe in you more certainly, and follow you more nearly so that I too may experience your risen presence for myself.
Risen God, forgive my uncertainties and enable me to meet with you for myself, so that I too may be filled with your radiant joy.
Risen God, we pray for scholars within your Church. Open our hearts to listen to our theologians and to respect their findings. Help us to avoid condemning new ideas from motives of fear or outrage, but to carefully examine new theories and new evidence. May your Church never be afraid to speak the truth, however much it might call our well-loved traditions into question, but may we constantly search for that which is right and which comes from you.
With Christians world-wide we pray especially today for Sebei in Uganda and Bishop Augusine Saalimo, and for Aberdeen and Orkney in Scotland and Bishop Bruce Cameron.
Risen God, open the hearts and minds of your Church to listen to our theologians and to respect their findings. May we constantly and fearlessly seek the truth. With Christians world-wide we pray especially today for Sebei in Uganda and Bishop Augusine Saalimo, and for Aberdeen and Orkney in Scotland and Bishop Bruce Cameron.
Risen God, religious differences are at the heart of so much conflict in our world. Even when we doubt the beliefs of others, may we respect them and respect those who hold such beliefs. May we learn to differentiate between motives of vengeance and revenge, and honestly held religious beliefs. And may all your people of whatever belief open their hearts to your love and peace which are at the centre of all major religions.
We continue to pray for your Holy Land, and all other areas where religious conflict damages human lives.

Risen God, may our young people develop a strong belief system which will carry them through life's trials. May they meet you, the risen Lord, for themselves so that their lives are transformed and inner strength grows within them. And risen God, may each of us play our part in enabling that wisdom and strength of spirit to develop within our young people. May we hear your call to work with youngsters, and be prepared to respond to this great need within our own community.
Risen God, support our young people and enable us to hear your call to work with youngsters, and respond to it.
Risen God, may those of our friends and families who are sick receive your great gift of faith and when they touch the hem of your robe may they receive your healing. We hold them beneath the fountain of your healing power now, praying that they may each return to full health and strength....
Risen God, we hold those who are sick beneath the fountain of your healing power....
Risen God, in this Easter season give renewed hope to those who have suffered the death of someone they love. May they know that your resurrection was real and witnessed by many of your friends, and may they be aware that you promised the same for all of us. Give them a glimpse of heaven and reassure them that their loved ones are alive and well, living and loving with you. We name before you ... and those who are reminded of a past bereavement at this time of year....

Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
