Transforming God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Transforming God, this is scary stuff! Of course I want wine, I'm as much into enjoying myself as the next person. But it sounds like good wine might be expensive. I want your good wine, but I'm not sure I'm quite ready to relinquish all hold on my life. I'd love you to come in and take over, as long as I remain in ultimate charge. I'm not so sure I want to give up all control. Transforming God, help me so to face my past that both the happy times and the bad times may be turned to good effect, and help me to take that final leap of faith and allow you total access to the whole of me, so that I too might experience the heady delights of your wonderful wine, transforming the water of my life into wine which is mellow, strong and rich in your grace.
Transforming God, we pray for your Church throughout the world, asking that it may be so transformed itself into an institution which shines with your love, that all who come into contact with it in any way may also be so transformed. Enable all branches of your church to work together in harmony and to grow vibrant with your energy and your Holy Spirit.
With the world-wide Church, we pray especially today for the Church in Mikkeli, Finland, and its Bishop, Voitto Huotari.
Transforming God, we pray for those throughout the world who are responsible for major decisions which affect the rest of humanity. We think of those responsible for the economy, for business, for politics, for defence, for education, for health. May they be so transformed by your Spirit that fair shares for all become the norm throughout the whole world.

Transforming God, we pray today for young parents and their children. Enable parents to love as you love them, so that their children may be brought up to understand the importance of self-discipline and the rules of society. Save us from producing a nation of anarchists because we fail to properly love our children, and help us to support those parents and children who are in need in any way. May we not judge, but assist; not condemn, but support.
In our own community, we pray especially today for ....
Transforming God, sometimes illness ruins the lives of whole families and groups of people. We pray for all those affected by illness, asking strength and endurance and understanding for them as they cope with the sickness of a family member. We hold in your presence for your healing touch ....
Transforming God, we hold within your presence those whose lives are at a low ebb because someone they love has died recently. May they know that transformation can and does occur, and that pain doesn't continue for ever. Pour your blessings upon them as we name them before you ... and we commend to your love too all for whom this time of year brings seemingly inevitable sadness....
We ask all these prayers through Jesus Christ, transformer and redeemer.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
