Bad Stuff

Picture of poison ivy or the actual plant!
Does anyone know what this beautiful plant is? It may look like an ordinary plant but if you get to close to it or rub up against it you'll get a terrible itchy rash called poison ivy. Has anyone ever experienced this? The horrible thing is that it itches terribly and starts to spread more and more on your body. Bad stuff!
Today in our story there was another skin disease that was bad stuff. It was called leprosy. It tells us in Luke 17:12 and 13 that:
Jesus was going into a village and ten men who had leprosy met Him. They stood at a distance (because it was contagious like poison ivy) and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus , Master, have pity on us!"
Jesus did care about them and had pity on them. He healed them! They must have been so excited -- amazed to have the leprosy gone. What would you have done if you had been one of those lepers? (Ask for responses of kids) Hopefully you would have remembered to say thank you to Jesus. Do you know it tells us that One of them came back, threw himself at Jesus feet and thanked him (Luke 17:16).
Sometimes we remember those two special words ... "thank you" but sometimes we are just lazy and ungrateful.
There is a story about a tennis team that was having a winning season. They were treated out to dinner by one of the parents. The team had a wonderful time laughing and enjoying the meal. They left the restaurant and do you think they expressed appreciation and thanks to those parents? No, they just thought it was owed to them and that they deserved it for all their hard work. Only one student spoke to the parents to say thanks.
How Do We Apply This to Our Lives?
God treats us to many wonderful things but do we take the moments to express heartfelt thanks. Remember that God does not owe us anything, but we owe him a thank you for all of his amazing blessings.
Let Us Pray,
Dear God, we thank you so much for all you have given us. Please help us remember to say thank you to all those who do good things for us. Amen.
