A Gift To Be Shared
Children's sermon

Object:
Pack of gum for each child plus one for yourself
I don't know what your favorite kind of gum is but I love "Juicy Fruit". I think I will have a piece right now! (pop one in your mouth) It is really tasty! You know I don't think one is enough. I better have another one. Let's look at our Bible story from Luke 16:11-13. Oh this is just delicious gum and I am enjoying it so much that I really want another piece, I owe it to myself, don't you think? (pop another piece in your mouth)
Today our story is about using what we have not just for ourselves but for God. I guess you could sayit is about not being selfish. Do you think I have been selfish? Some of you seem to be looking at me kind of strangely... It says in the scripture that,
"If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches. You cannot serve both God and money"
God has given us worldly possessions as a gift to be shared with others and to bless others. But so often we become selfish with our things, our wealth, and we cannot be trusted with it.
It is like this little pack of gum; I can eat it all up by myself or I can look for ways to share it with others to make them blessed. This pack is very tiny but if don't know how to even share this , how will I ever be trusted to share in bigger ways? It says in verse 10, that " whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much."
How Can We Apply This to Our Lives?
I am going to give each of you a challenge for this week. You each can have a pack of gum and I want you to see how you might use what you have to please God and to make others happy by sharing it. It is a very small thing but do a good job with it and God may trust you with bigger opportunities. It isn't about the pack of gum but our attitude with what we have been given.
Let Us Pray.
Dear God, thank you for sharing so many things with us. Help us learn to share with others, starting with small things like this pack of gum and learning to share more. Amen.
