God's medicine
Children's sermon

pills
Good morning, boys and girls. This morning, I brought with me some of the medicine I take. The reason people take medicine is to make them better or to keep them from getting sick. For instance, this pill is for high blood pressure. I take it every day and it keeps my blood pressure at just the right number. If I didn't take it, I could get very ill.
I also take a one-a-day vitamin and it is supposed to keep all of the chemicals in my body charged up so they can protect me from becoming ill. I take other pills, also, like vitamin C and calcium to make strong bones and protect me from colds.
How many of you take medicine every day? (let them answer) What do you take it for? (let them answer) We are not always happy about having to take medicine, but if it keeps us healthy we need to do it. Can you imagine all of those pills running around in your body looking for just the right place to go? (let them answer) The pink pill has to find my heart, the white pill has to find my bones, and so forth. They are living inside of me and keeping my body under control.
These pills can help us understand the Spirit of God. God's Spirit also wants to work within your body, except it knows exactly where to go in your body. Why would God's Spirit be interested in living inside you? (let them answer) Do you think he is trying to find a nice spot to live in this world? Are you a nice, warm, and cozy home for the Spirit? Would you like to have God's Spirit live inside of you? (let them answer)
The reason the Spirit of God wants to live within you is so he can help you spiritually. God's Spirit helps fills you up with healthy and good feelings and keeps you away from sin. Isn't that wonderful? God's Spirit does not have to look where to go, like the pills do, he knows exactly how to help you. When God's Spirit lives inside of us, he chases away all the desire to do bad things and the devil runs away.
So the next time you see someone take a pill, you can think about it running around inside of the person and finding the right places to keep that person healthy. Maybe also you will think about asking God's Spirit to live within you and help you be the best Christian you can be.
