Open up!
Children's Activity
Object:
Play a game of "Ephphatha! Open up!" with the children. Depending on the size of your group, choose 2 to 4 children to come to the front of the room. Have the rest of the children close their eyes and put their heads down. The chosen children go around the room and each one taps the head or shoulders of one other child whose eyes are closed. The choosers return to the front of the room. Then the teacher says, "Ephphatha! Open up!" and the children may open their eyes. The children who were tapped then get one chance to guess which of the choosers tapped them. If a child guesses correctly, that child replaces the chooser who tapped him/her at the front of the room. If the child guesses incorrectly, the chooser remains as a chooser. Continue playing the game in this manner.
