Thanks to God
Children's sermon
Object:
a "Thank You" card (If your church has a postcard of the
church, consider giving each child a postcard and asking each to
write a "thank you" note to someone within the church. See
"Sharing this week's Gospel Theme" section.)
When someone does something nice to me or for me, I like to
sit down and write a note to that person on one of these. These
are "thank you" cards. I send them to thank the person who did
the nice thing for me. It tells them that I am thankful for what
they did and for who they are.
One day Jesus healed ten people who had a very bad sickness. It was a sickness that caused their skin to become very ugly. People with this skin disease had to leave the town in which they lived because no one else wanted to catch this sickness or disease.
Ten people became well because of Jesus, but only one person came back to say "thank you." Jesus wondered where the other nine were. "Were they not thankful?" he wondered.
Jesus does many things for us today. Jesus has given us this church. Jesus has given us each other. Jesus has given us our parents and homes and all that we have. So we say "thank you" the best way we know how. Can you tell me how we might say "thank you" to Jesus for all that Jesus does for us? (Let them answer. If they can't think of anything, suggest saying thanks in prayer and doing good for others.)
Dear God: THANK YOU! Amen.
