This is true!
Children's sermon
Object:
sign that says "the end" (or a book with "the end"
printed prominently)
When I watch a movie, I sometimes see this sign. What does
this mean? (Let them answer.) That's right! This means the movie
is over. These words are also in many books. Where do you think
you find these words in a book? (Let them answer.) That's right -
- you find them at the end.
When I say my prayers I always end them with "Amen." I used to think that "Amen" meant "the end" like in the end of the prayer. The very last word of the Bible is the word "Amen." See why many people think that "amen" means "the end"? I can understand that.
Now, let me tell you what "amen" really means. It means "truly." It means "this is true." Sometimes when I write a letter I end the letter with the word "truly" and then I sign my name. Sometimes I end by saying, "Yours truly," and then sign my name. The word "truly" means "this is true," and what I write in my letter is true.
Jesus is true and what Jesus says is true. When we end our prayers with "Amen" we mean, "this is really true." In fact if we look at the word the Bible uses in the original language that says "truly" it is the word "amen."
Today, when we say our prayers in church, we will use the word "Amen" at the end. But we could say, "This is true." I would like to say a prayer now and end it that way.
Dear Lord, we know that everything you say is true. We know that you are true. We trust you and know that you never lie to us or tell us something that is not true. We are thankful to you for the truth you stand for. Sincerely and yours truly.
