Words Of Assurance
Our God is both wise and caring: afflicting the comfortable and comforting the afflicted.
Pastoral Prayer
God, we bow before you this morning, knowing that you hear every prayer. We know that in all of Creation, you are the source of life. You are the one who set the light swirling between the galaxies. The breath of your Spirit pulses through all life. You have even become flesh among us. We praise you, Lord, that in all your wonder, you have not forgotten us.
We need your presence in this place. Week after week, we are weary. Being faithful seems so complicated, and in the long run, doesn't seem to make so much difference. We are consumed by our own lives, our own betrayals, our own frustrations. Every sorrow weighs us down. Too often, life seems to be a role we play, and truthfully, Lord, we're tired of pretending.
Move among us now. In this place, let us hear your Spirit whisper. Let us feel the presence of your life. Let the radiance of your light shine on our faces. Help us turn aside false voices. Help us ignore the doom and gloom of the world, and hear the promise of your Word. Remind us that we are not alone. We are united by the Spirit in Jesus Christ, who moves among us now. Let your truth and mercy surround us like a circle of friends, guiding us, holding us up, pointing us to new ways.
As we are strengthened, Lord, help us witness. Help us grasp other hands, helping those who are weary. We forget how much good work there is to do. There are homeless folks to shelter, hungry folks to feed, orphan children to care for. There are battles to be stopped, and violence to be halted. Unite us, strengthen us, empower us with your Spirit of Life, so that we can overcome the forces of death. Help us stand together to do the work you have set before us. Help us encourage and inspire one another, so that your Word will continue to bring life.
We ask all this, knowing that you are faithful, and that even now, your Spirit is among us. Amen.
Benediction
Go forth in faith, ready to enter the doorways God is opening; prepared to accept the challenges he is offering; willing to make the sacrifices he is asking; and the blessing of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit go with you. Amen.
