What makes a king a king?
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: On this last Sunday in the church year, we
emphasize the kingship of Jesus. That he is the king of us all,
believers and unbelievers alike, is a fact. But it is a fact that
is not acknowledged by most of the people in the world. This
Sunday would be a good time to let the children see that Jesus is
the king of all creation and to talk about how this fact will be
acknowledged by all on the Last Day.
*Ask the children to pretend that they have the power to
make somebody a king. This group has the power to select anybody
in the world as a king. What would they look for in the king they
will select? Ask them to name the attributes they want in a king
and list these things on a board or easel. You may want to
suggest things if their list is too small. When you are done,
show them how all of these good attributes apply to Jesus and
make sure they understand that he is the king of all creation.
*What will it be like when Jesus returns on the Last Day and
all the people in the world see that he really is the king of the
universe? Ask this question and let the children think about it.
Then ask them to tell you what they would be happy about if Jesus
returned today. List their answers and make sure they include the
fact that the thing we are most happy about is that we believe in
him and are therefore his saved people. Then ask them to name the
things that those who don't believe will be thinking on that last
day. List these and make sure it includes that they are
devastated because they didn't believe and are therefore lost.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing the hymn, "Praise To The Lord, The Almighty, The King
Of Creation," or another hymn that emphasizes the kingship of
Christ.
