In 1920, Bill Wamby, a second baseman for the Cleveland Indians, made the first and only unassisted triple play in a baseball World Series. Accounts say that with runners at first and second, Wamby snagged a sharp line drive for the first out, and his momentum carried him to step on second base for the second out. He then turned to throw to first, but was surprised to see the baserunner from first standing only a few feet from him. The runner was just as surprised to see Wamby with the ball. After tagging the runner out, Wamby tossed the ball over his head and trotted toward the dugout.
